Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry

The Biochemistry department at Virginia Tech has over 130 members, including 25 faculty, 15 research or professional faculty, 21 staff members, 41 graduate students, and many undergraduate researchers. In addition, we have 486 Biochemistry undergraduate majors earning degrees in two different Colleges.

Our administration, a portion of our research labs, and our biochemistry teaching labs are located in Engel Hall, with several faculty research programs also located in Fralin, Latham, and Steger Hall. Named after the department's founder (Charlie Engel), Engel Hall is unique in that it is home to a single academic and research program: Biochemistry.
