The Department of Biochemistry at Virginia Tech celebrated the 6th Annual “EngelPalooza” research showcase, a celebration of undergraduate and graduate research in the biomedical sciences.

Each year, more than 20 students present their research in front of crowds of over 100 participants, including fellow students, faculty, and staff from across the university. A highlight of this day each year includes a research presentation from a distinguished alumni of either the undergraduate or graduate program in the Department of Biochemistry.

The 2024 EngelPalooza keynote speaker was Christoper C. Yoo, a current Research Scientist at Cyteir Therapeutics, a 2017 Bachelor of Science degree recipient in Biochemistry, and a 2019 Master’s degree recipient with a focus on molecular and cancer biology from the laboratory of Dr. Daniel J. Slade. Mr. Yoo captivated the audience and minds of students with perspectives from his experiences working for multiple companies in the biotech industry in Boston, Massachusetts. He provided students with real-world advice for entering the job market in search of positions in the biomedical sciences. -Dan Slade

Engelpalooza is made possible by a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI). Thank you, Biochemistry Department, for your continued support and involvement.

We hope to see you in fall at our next Engelpalooza!
