SCHOLARSHIPS AT VIRGINIA
TECH
Academic scholarships at Virginia
Tech are available through the Office of Scholarships
and Financial Aid (OSFA) as well as the various colleges and academic
departments. Please take the following steps to assure consideration of
all scholarship activities at Virginia Tech.
1. Complete the Free Application for Student
Financial Aid (FAFSA) on line on time.
2. Complete the Virginia Tech OSFA On-Line
General Scholarship Application.
3. If invited, complete the Virginia Tech
Honors Program Application in a timely manner. These are issued by invitation
only.
The
BS in Biochemistry is offered through either the College of Agriculture
& Life Sciences (CALS) or the College of Science (COS). CALS awards
numerous undergraduate scholarships for which Biochemistry majors
seeking scholarships are usually in a strong competitive position.
Specific information is available at CALS scholarship
information and application form. Applications for these scholarships
are due April 1 but if possible should be sent sooner. Fewer scholarships
are available in the College of Science. Information about these COS
scholarships provides more details about these awards.
The
Biochemistry Department also awards departmental scholarships for
rising Juniors and Seniors. There is no application for these scholarships.
Awards are based on excellent academic achievement.
Awards and Scholarships
for Undergraduate Students
William Burns Downey Memorial
Scholarship - Endowed
Awarded to encourage biological and chemical research for undergraduate
students in the Department of Biochemistry.
R. W. and Frances H. Engel
Scholarship - Endowed
Awarded to support the education of undergraduate students in the Department
of Biochemistry.
Alumni Scholarship -
Annual Giving
Awarded to support the education of upper division undergraduate students
majoring in biochemistry.
Richard E. Ebel Scholarship
- Annual Giving
The scholarship was established to recognize the teaching contributions
of R.E. Ebel. It is awarded to the rising senior who has, through excellent
accomplishment in the biochemistry curriculum, demonstrated superior ability
to pursue a career in the life sciences.
William E. Newton Award - Annual Giving
The award was established in recognition of the service of W.E. Newton
as Department Head, 1992-1998. This award is given to a senior who, as
a junior, demonstrated research potential and accomplishment.
