COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY CORE CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS

All biochemistry majors must meet the University core curriculum requirements and the additional core curriculum requirements of the college of their major. There are slight differences in the requirements of each college. For those students in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the requirements are designated as BCHM. For those students in the College of Science, the requirements are designated as BIOC.

Area 1: Writing and Discourse (Freshman Writing and Writing Intensive course*)

BCHM - ENGL 1105-1106 (Freshman English) and Writing Intensive course-(6 semester hours)

BIOC - ENGL 1105-1106 (Freshman English) and Writing Intensive course-

Area 2: Ideas, Cultural Traditions, and Values (Humanities)

Foreign Language

BCHM - (a) Complete two units of a single foreign or classical language during high school.
or (b) Earn six semester hours of college-level foreign or classical language credit.
These semester hours will not count toward the 120 semester credit hours required for graduation.

BIOC - (a) Complete three units of a single foreign or classical language during
high school. or (b) Several options (See detailed comments under College of Science Core Curriculum requirements in the general catalog)

Credit Requirement for Graduation

BCHM - 120 semester credit hours.

BIOC - 120 semester credit hours.

University Grade Point Average (GPA) Requirement:

Students must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA for all hours attempted for graduation with a B.S.

Additional Departmental GPA Requirements:

To qualify for a B.S. degree in biochemistry, a student must maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA in all required courses taken in biochemistry, biology, and chemistry. A student must earn a C- or better in each of these required courses.

*BCHM 4124 (6 credits) in the writing intensive course.
