Emphasis in Genomics - Bioinformatics

The Department of Biochemistry supports students interest in genomics/bioinformatics by providing instruction and laboratory experience in those areas. Students in this emphasis take courses in computer science leading to a minor and selected advanced level classes. Students meet the requirement for a minor in CS and are required to have the following classes in addition to what is required for the BS degree in Biochemistry:

  • STAT 3615-3616 Biological Statistics
  • BIOL 4075 Bioinformatics Methods
  • BCHM 4054 Genomics
  • BCHM 4784 Biotechnology Applications

Ms. Libby Bradford (bradfolg@cs.vt.edu) an advisor is CS has agreed to work with Biochemistry majors wishing to do a minor. You should make an appointment with her to go over requirements and when you can schedule CS classes.
